Listen, I'm a believer in the importance of family photos, for lots of reasons.  They get a bad rap because of all the things you already know - cranky kids, cranky dads, coordinating outfits, frustrated moms.  So here is my suggestion - don't.  Don't spend time worrying about getting everyone cute outfits.  Don't threaten or bribe the kids to stand still and smile at the camera.  Don't think of it as a chore to cross off your list.

Let this be my invitation to you to do this differently.  Every photo is meaningful because of the memory attached to it and I guarantee you that a photo with everyone smiling will not bring you the joy you want if the memory attached to it is one were everyone was unhappy.  We can create meaningful photos that will capture your beautiful family without all the stress.

Kids can stick out their tongues and run through a field and I can still get some smiling at the camera pics.  And maybe even better ones because the smiles will be genuine.

At sessions, we'll be goofy and casual and not worry about getting the perfect holiday card pic - which is exactly how you GET the perfect holiday card pic.  I want you to have photos of your kids laughing with abandon and parents eyerolling at but also adoring said laughing kids.  This is how you preserve exactly who your family is in this season of life and the images we create will be ones you revisit when you get nostalgic for this moment in time.
